Richard Z. Martinez, 70, of Edna, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002.
He was born Feb. 26, 1932, to the late Pete and Carlota Zambrano Martinez. He was a retired employee of Edna ISD and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Survivors: wife, Vera DeLeon Martinez; daughter, Tina Hernandez of Edna; son, Richard Steve Martinez of Irving; sisters, Mary Montez of Lake Jackson, Alice Salazar of San Antonio and Louisa Palacios of Victoria; brothers, Gilbert Martinez and Jesse Zambrano, both of Lake Jackson, Pete Martinez of Angleton, Lupe Pena of Edna; Felix Martinez of Victoria and John Manuel Zambrano of Houston; grandchildren, Shelby Martinez, Dave McNulty, Richard Steve Martinez Jr., Jesus and Jennifer Carrera and Marlissa Hernandez; and great-grandchild, Aaron Richard Martinez.
Preceded in death by: parents; and brothers, Victor Martinez.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Rev. Michael O'Shaughnessy officiating.
Burial will be at Edna Latin American Cemetery. Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221. Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Shelby Martinez, Dave McNulty, Jesus & Jennifer Carrera, Marlissa Hernandez and Richard Steve Martinez Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Edna Little League and great-grandchild, Aaron Richard Martinez.
Richard who was a Manger, in the Edna Little League for as long as I can remember. Passed away October 16, 2002 I will remember him as manger was always thanking of kids, in how to better there life. He brought new meaning to benign a coach/manager always putting the players first. Richard will be miss by ever one. (Bobby Hernandez)
